Founder's Note: For The Love of the Scrub!
My daughter and I love to do body scrubbing today, and it is so easy to make your own at home.
It was actually body scrubbing that initiated my journey into green beauty and learning about the world of toxins in our everyday products.
A wonderful friend of mine introduced me to body scrubbing some 5 years ago now, and she made her own. When I asked her why she made her own, and what ingredients she used....she told me about all of the wonderful organic ingredients she sort out and used, and where she got it all from. It was beautiful and delicious and a whole new world for me.
She got me questioning everything, because I thought organic was only for food, not products for on our body.
And so began a deep dive into consumer products and ingredients, and what I found shocked me.
This journey has led to the Natural Perfume Collective being born - so it is not all bad, right!!
And perfume is all about the delightful world of smells, and the pleasure they bring us. This is the same for Body Scrubs too! BONUS, body scrubbing also has all sorts of health benefits like assisting our lymphatic system to move toxins out, clearing away old skin to make way for new skin, and stimulating our system to create brand new skin. So much winning!
Recently, someone asked me how to make body scrubs....and I was like, "oh, it is so easy!!" But they wanted to know the specifics, so....here it is!
EASY HOME-MADE BODY SCRUBS
Start with a base abrasive material. The best quality you can!
o Magnesium/Epsom Salts
o Ground Coffee
o Granulated Sugar
o Granulated Salt
Add in a carrier oil, that binds it together
o Sweet almond Oil
o Jojoba Oil
o Even Olive oil
Add in your favourite essential oils.
o Clary Sage……are all good.
o If you already have essential oil blends, then just use that as the oil drops.
o If you have separate essential oils, then put in a combination to your liking.
Extras you can add: lavender flowers, coconut pieces, dried orange rinds….
Then stir it together so it all comes together.
Enjoy in your next shower. Your skin will love the exfoliation.
You can get all of these ingredients at your local health food store.
It is not an exact science, so play with it. Two cups of the salts/sugar is good for use on your body, then half a cup of the oil to bring it together. Add more or less oil depending on how you like your body scrub – less oil if you like it grainier and more oil if you like it wetter. Then 8 – 10 drops of your oils.
Have a smell.....ahhhhh it is divine!!!
After your delicious pampering session in the shower, we recommend spritzing yourself with the Hanako ‘I AM’ range, which may help to support, balance and uplift the mind, body and spirit.
I also adore the roll on perfumes from Serene - Handmade in Melbourne using 100% pure essentials oils from plant seeds, leaves, fruits and flowers that may help improve your mood, focus your mind and balance your body.
